The Benefits of Massage
A massage may seem like just a treat (and it is, so you should absolutely treat yourself to one), but it’s a treat that comes with physiological and psychological benefits you’ll be feeling long after it’s over. Research shows that’s especially true when you make massages a regular part of your routine. At Healthworks, our licensed massage therapists can address any specific areas of concern over the course of your therapy and work in tandem with any medical professionals to further support your needs. Here are the types of massage we offer and the different ways each of them can help you move and feel better throughout your journey with us.
Restorative Massage
We call this one our tried and true. Depending on what you need during your session, our restorative massage can range from focusing on relaxation to deep tissue work. We recommend it after a long workout or a long day as it promotes the circulation of blood and lymph and speeds up the body’s recovery process leaving you refreshed and ready for whatever comes next.
Hot Stone Massage
This one is best for people who need the deeper relaxation of the heated stones central to this type of massage. During your 80-minute session, our therapist will move the smooth, flat volcanic stones across specific parts of your body to ease muscle tension, improve blood flow, alleviate pain, promote relaxation, and relieve stress.
Reflexology
This type of massage is guided by the theory that stimulating the nerve reflex points in various parts of the feet and hands can rebalance all of the systems of the body. A 25 or 50-minute session with one of our therapists can promote relaxation, reduce pain and fatigue, improve sleep, ease anxiety, and improve mood. Reflexology can also be a great option for people who are not comfortable being touched on the entire body.
Thai Massage
This ancient form of bodywork blends passive stretching, compression, and acupressure to improve the flow of energy throughout the body. Our customized treatments are performed on a floor futon while clients are dressed in loose, comfortable clothing. Benefits include relief from headaches and joint stiffness, a reduction in back pain, as well as increased flexibility and range of motion.
Lymph Detox
This is a gentle yet deeply relaxing form of massage that focuses on stimulating the immune system to enhance lymph flow, which removes toxins from the body. Our 25-minute session focuses on the upper body, while our 50-minute session is a full-body experience. Lymph detox has been shown to benefit people with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic venous insufficiency, and lipedema.
Myofascial
This type of therapy involves applying slow, gentle, and sustained pressure to the myofascial tissues that connect muscles, joints, and bones with the goals of improving range of motion and circulation, reducing soreness, increasing the body’s natural recovery process, and providing relief from stress.
Cupping
This ancient form of alternative medicine gets an update with silicone cups that create negative pressure to achieve similar results as a deep tissue massage. Benefits include improved blood and lymph circulation, increased range of motion, and decreased muscle tension. We also offer 25-minute facial cupping sessions, which gently lift the tissue to stimulate blood flow, which leaves your skin looking tighter and brighter.
Reiki
The term is derived from the Japanese word ‘rei,’ meaning universal, and ‘ki,’ which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Our therapists use gentle touch to deliver energy to your body, improving the flow and balance of your energy to encourage tissue and bone healing, stimulate the immune system, ease muscle tension, reduce pain, and bring about a meditative state that promotes relaxation. We recommend 50- or 80-minutes sessions for maximum results.
Prenatal Massage
Pregnancy can be a joyful experience, but it can also take its physical and mental toll on the mom-to-be. Our trained therapists are here to help address the many common discomforts associated with all the changes that come with the hormone shifts of pregnancy including back and leg pain and swelling in the joints. A prenatal massage can also improve circulation, reduce anxiety, improve mood and ease insomnia.
